Who We Are
ACUM was founded in 1936 by the most prominent creators of their time, including Moshe Wilensky, Leah Goldberg, Avraham Shlonsky, Alexander Penn and Mordechai Ze'ira - with the goal of collecting royalties for the use of works and passing them on to creators.
The society protects the copyrights of over two million works and represents many creators - composers, lyricists, poets, authors, music publishers, arrangers and translators in Israel and worldwide.
ACUM frees music users from the need to contact each creator individually and negotiate the right to use their work. ACUM issues licenses and collects royalties from all bodies that use works: television channels, radio stations, cellular companies, internet companies, record companies, businesses, pubs, restaurants, events and more.
ACUM was declared a monopoly in 2004 by the Competition Commissioner, and conditions were imposed on it to regulate its operations.
ACUM - By Creators, For Creators
ACUM is a non-profit company that serves as a home for creators and is managed by them. Collected royalties are distributed to creators based on the usage of their works, minus the society's operating expenses.
ACUM contributes greatly to strengthening the status of creators and promoting Israeli creation. The society supports projects that advance original creation, most notably the ACUM Awards, held since 1958.
ACUM assists creators who face financial hardship through the Creator Welfare Fund, established by society members. Since January 2011, all ACUM members are members of the welfare fund and are exempt from membership fees.
Intellectual Property Is Property
"A musical or literary work is property in every sense, and it is forbidden to use it without permission from its owner and without payment - just like any other product." These rights are protected by the Copyright Law.
